This shop specializes in recycled taxidermy jewelry and air plant terrariums. I love this seller for obvious reasons. I mean, how many times on Etst to you see recycled taxidermy jewelry? Unless you have connections or something, I doubt you see it a lot. Now when you think about dead animals in jewelry, it sounds not so pretty. Welcome to another Talkative Tuesday! This one will be on the seller Renee Anne! Take a look at my interview with her!

What products do you sell?
   At my shop I sell my original paintings, fine art reproduction prints as well as a small selection of recycled paper goods.

Where did you get your shop name?
   My shop name is my name. It's my first and middle name. People usually just call me Renée.

How did you get into artwork?
   Since I was very young I've always been a creative person. Drawing and various other crafts have always been my hobbies. It wasn't until a little over 10 years ago that I decided to try watercolor painting. My parents, my husband and children have been a constant encouragement and support throughout my life, always complementing and guiding in various ways. As time passes I am realizing more and more that being creative is an essential part of who I am and that I feel much more myself when I make art.

What was your inspiration for this shop?
   A friend suggested that my art would be perfect on Etsy. When she said this I had never heard of Etsy but joined right away after I checked it out for myself. I just love Etsy, what is offers and the community. My faith, my family especially my husband and two young boys and my friends all inspire the artwork that's found at the shop.

Describe your workspace and how it works for you.
   My workplace is not ideal. I would love to have my own room to work in but at this point it's just not possible. Currently, I paint on a desk in our living room. I have my paints stored high on a shelf beside the desk and set everything up every time I'm going to paint. The light in the living room is perfect. There are four large windows in the space and one is right over the desk. The kids are usually running around, playing and such while I paint but I do take advantage of nap time. I also have a very large printer and this is stored in my basement on a desk there. My basement is unfinished and there is hardly any light so I could never paint there but it's perfect for storing, printing and packing up orders. My computer is portable so I just bring it into the basement whenever I need to use the printer there.

Can you tell us one random fact about yourself?
   I used to be a synchronized swimmer.

What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
   It's really difficult for me to choose just one favorite item from my shop because all of my paintings sometimes feel like their my babies and I can't choose just one favorite. I really like my 4 X 4 paintings, I think "Phoebe" or "To the Ocean" are some of my favorites. The original painting "Two Birds with Heart" is also special to me and is hanging above the headboard of our bed in the master bedroom. The reproduction print is available at the shop.

What tips can you give to someone starting the same kind of business?
Create what you love and keep it up. Take advantage of being a part of the Etsy community, every one there is always so helpful and there are so many resources available on Etsy to help artists.

If you could do one thing differently with your shop, what would it be and why?
I'm actually currently re-designing my blog and I'm sure some of that will spill into my Etsy shop. I'm trying to unify things more, be more focussed I guess. That's what I would do differently. Ideally I think I should have started out that way but that's not how it happened. Things tend to evolve but having a focussed theme and look is important because I think it makes you stand out. I would love to do this on a full-time or at least more part-time basis but I'm taking things slow as I'm still at home with our two boys. My hope is that I'll be creating even more in the future.

What products do you sell?
My shop sells a variety of goodies but mainly my original artwork, art boxes, crafts, and vintage.

Where did you get your shop name?
   My name is Aiysha Khaalid, nickname Khali, I am a full-time artist with a bachelor degree in Fine Arts. I'm a painter, an illustrator, a mixed media artist, and crafter. I am the owner and creator of the Etsy shop called KhaliNouveau. The name of my business is a combination of "Khali, a nickname given from my family and "Nouveau", French for ‘New’ inspired from the most famous and my favorite art period, Art Nouveau.
How did you get into art?
   Creativity has been in my blood since an early age. I have been an artist for over 15 years. What inspires me to become an artist is my love of art, and artworks by Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt, and newly discovered Hayv Kahraman because of their original artistic style and feminine beauty in their work. Their use of details, strong symbolism, and strong composition in their artwork affects my creative energy into making my own style.
What was your inspiration for this shop?
   I started my Etsy business in 2008 but many years before Etsy, I was a freelance artist with my own business as a interior mural artist. Now on Etsy, I decided to own a shop to share and sell my artwork and crafts with others.

Describe your workspace and how it works for you.
   Small studio in my house. Tidy in the beginning but messy in the end of a project.

Can you tell us one random fact about yourself?
   I am also a photographer and a traveler.

What is your favorite item in your shop and why?

Welcome to a new feature called Talkative Tuesday! In this feature we will interview a very successful Etsy seller! This week our seller is the wonderful Lyn Lloyd Designs! This wonderful seller is a graphic designer. Here is my interview with Lyn Lloyd Designs:

What products do you sell?

I sell graphics. Mostly shop banners for Etsy shops and logo designs. I have also done web banners, business cards, ad designs, flyer designs, brochure designs, wedding invitations, stickers, tile designs for scrabble necklaces and glass necklaces.

Where did you get your shop name?

I got my shop name from my nickname “Lyn”. My real name is Carolyn, but in high school I wanted everyone to call me Lyn because I hated the name Carolyn for some reason. I always thought it sounded like a grandma name. Now I like both, but I still have a soft spot for my nickname. I think it’s cute. Lloyd is my grandmother’s maiden name. I have always loved it and I don’t know why. Mostly because I think it sounds soft and pretty. It reminds me of the 30s. It sounds like a name from the past…

How did you get into graphic design?

I can’t remember the exact date, but I’ve always loved art. You could find pictures of me creating things from a very young age. My passion for it grew and grew as I got older, which is usually the opposite for most people. I took my first real art class in 8th grade when I quit the cello. In high school I loved comic books and started trying to be a comic book artist. I had big dreams to one day illustrate a comic book. Then during my senior year of high school I found my style. I found it by doing patterns and designs that I loved instead of creating what I thought looked good. I fell in love with pen & ink and watercolors. They are still my favorite medium to use. I have always had a love for logos and things like that. So, it was just a natural career choice.

What was you inspiration for this shop?

My father. He gave me the confidence to start my own shop. But as for designs, it comes from anywhere. Usually I listen to music.

How do you work? Describe your working style.

     It’s not that structured I suppose, but it’s close. I wake up around 9 ish and have tea with toast and walk my dogs. I love running so I try to fit that in before I go to work. I start at noon. I get all the housework done about at noon so it’s always a good time to get working. I put on Radio Paradise or sometimes I watch a show while I’m designing. Half my screen is Illustrator and half is Hulu or Netflix.

Can you tell one random fact about yourself?

     My favorite show is Doctor Who.

What tips can you give to someone starting the same kind of business?

     Be unique! Don’t copy anyone else’s style because that’s just boring.

If you could do one thing differently with your shop, what would it be and why?

Post a lot more every day because I need the exposure.

First Ever Make It! Monday-How To Close a Crimp Bead

After having so much fun with my feature on lovelylovedesigns, I can't wait to do my second feature, Make! It Monday! Today, I am going to teach you how to close a crimp bead when making jewelry such as a bracelet or a necklace with a clasp at th end. A crimp bead is used to end a bracelet or necklace and make a loop for the clasp to hold on to. You will need crimp beads, obviously, some string, such as Tigertail, and crimp pliers. Crimp pliers are a special tool for closing crimp beads. When you close the crimp pliers, you can see that there are two holes. The end hole is an oval shape and the second is the shape of a pair of lips.

1. First grab some string, such as Tigertail or beading wire, and string the crimp bead onto the end of the string.

2. Next, take the end of the string and loop it back through the crimp bead.

3. Put the crimp bead in the second hole (the pair of lips) and close the crimping pliers. The crimp bead should curl into the shape of the hole.

4. Then put it in the first hole (the oval) on its side. Close the crimping pliers and you should notice that the crimp bead is now an oval shape.

5. Now you are almost done! All you need to do now is to trim off the extra string . You can trim it almost all off, or you can leave it longer so that you just string the beads on the extra string.

Congratulations! You have just finished closing a crimp bead. I hope this Make It! Monday helped you learn how to close a crimp bead.

Lots Has Happened!

A lot has happened since the last time I posted! We added new items and had the 4th of July! We added Candy Blue Jade Earrings, Blue and Green Glass Keychain, and Colorful Floss Bracelets. The jade earrings are modern and add flair to any outfit. The keychain would look good on anything. The bracelets will remind you of childhood!

We also enjoyed the 4th of July. We wen to see fireworks outside, and unlike last year, the weather was PERFECT! No rain at all. The fireworks looked great!

We Have Started A New Line!

We have started a new line of jewelry called "floss jewelry" made out of embroidery floss. Our first design is a rainbow key chain with a beautiful diagonal pattern. It has a metal clip on the end so you can clip it almost anywhere. I think this line will be great!

I just found this wonderful new software called Ehax. Its software you download on to Firefox that adds tools to make etsy better. You can go straight to admin posts, feature your items on your public page, press one button on your public page to edit a listing, and so much more! This is great and totally ok with Etsy. Etsy even did an interview with the guy that created it! If you have an Etsy account, check out his website. It has tons of new tools to add to your Etsy!

First Day of School

Today was my sister and I's first day of school. For me it was my first day of Middle School! I was so excited, and middle school is great. most of my friends are in my homeroom and My homeroom teacher is great! Since we started school don't expect us to be on our blog all the time. We go to school 7 o'clock to 2 o'clock. So if you are wishing to talk to us do it when we are not at school. Don't expect us to be adding new things to our etsy account even though we probably will. I know it is not Featured Friday, but I would like to share this with you. Our shop was featured on someone elses blog! LittleThingsDesign featured us on her blog. She sells balls, grab toys, teethers, bottles and other things for those little people! Her stuff id all adorable. If I was about 11 or 12 years younger, I would love to be using her products. New Earrings Have Arrived!

Guess what? Our new earrings have arrived! We just added 3 new pairs of earrings. We will also add four other pairs of earrings that are replicas of most of our previous earrings, but the only difference is that they are made with sterling silver and are more expensive than our metal based version. If you want something cheaper than the metal based are perfect for you. If you want something of better quality then you'll love the sterling silver versions.
